Description

A very fast acting EGT probe suitable for use with many brands of exhaust gas temperature input. It works with any system requiring a K-type thermocouple probe. The sensor cable comes with the common “mini” K-type connector and is supplied with an 8 foot extension cable. The probe has a 1.7mm tip meaning it is of the faster reacting type.

Please note: This item comes with a standard “mini” K-type connection on the end of the sensor and on the end of the extension. For a Zeitronix specific EGT sensor see the Zeitronix section of our website.

It has a 1/8 NPT thread for mounting into the exhaust manifold. If the manifold is of the tube type, or its wall thickness is not suitable for tapping then you may also need the stainless steel 1/8 NPT weld-in boss that we stock.

Notes:

On turbocharged engine the EGT probe should be placed before the turbo. A high temperature drop occurs across the turbocharger which will throw off any EGT readings taken after a turbo. This temperature drop is variable and so the preferred EGT probe location is before the turbo.

Place the EGT wires as far as possible from the ignition components such as plugs, plug wires, and coils. Since the ignition components carry thousands volts they are a very powerful sources of EMI noise. The EMI noise may be inducted into the EGT wires. The EGT signals are in mili volt levels (0.001V) where the ignition carries tens of thousands (10000) volts and placing the EGT wires near the ignition components may result in false peak EGT readings.
